Amherstburg's Map & Grow Tree Giveaway

Saturday, April 26, 2025, 9 am to noon or while supplies last. 

 

In collaboration with the University of Windsor, School of the Environment, the Town of Amherstburg invites you to participate in an innovative initiative to expand and track our tree canopy.

Receive a free tree! Choose from Linden, London, Silk Lilac, Red Bud or Tulip Trees. You can choose up to two trees per resident home. 

Get Mapped! The University of Windsor research team will visit your home, log your tree's GPS coordinates, and monitor its growth over time.

Pickup Details:

Date: Saturday, April 26, 2025
Time: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM, or while supplies last
Location: The Libro Centre, 3295 Meloche Road - soccer fields - this is a drive-thru pickup
Requirement: Must bring a driver's licence with an Amherstburg address.

Completion of this form does not guarantee you a tree. It is first come, first serve while supplies last! Maximum of 2 trees per resident home. 

Eligibility Requirements:

You must agree to give researchers access to the tree on your property for years to come.
This initiative is for Amherstburg Residents only. At pickup, a government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver's licence) must be provided with an Amherstburg address.
Bring the completed form. 

This is a drive-thru tree pickup. Bring your form, choose your favourite tree species, pop your trunk, and a staff member will load it with your free tree.  

After you complete this form online, you will receive confirmation via email. Please print the attached PDF with your responses and bring it to pick up. 

This program is in collaboration with the University of Windsor, School of the Environment Department.

London Plane Tree
Height:  18 m  Width: 14 m
Full Sun/ Soil Moisture: dry to moist
Moderate Growth Rate

Linden Tree 
Height: 16 m Width: 12 m
Full Sun/ Soil Moisture: dry to moist
Small shade tree with early summer yellow flowers

Ivory Silk Lilac
Height: 8 m Width: 4 m
Full Sun/ Soil Moisture: average to moist
Ideal for small yards, early summer white flowers

Red Bud Tree
Height: 7 m Width: 7 m
Full to Part Sun
Ideal for small yards, spring blooms of showy pink and purple flowers

Tulip Tree
Height: 27 m Width: 15 m
Full Sun
One of the tallest native trees, after 15 years blooms yellow/green flowers

AGREEMENT / WAIVER

By signing this document, you are also agreeing to potentially allow University of Windsor researchers access to your tree to take scientific measurements and your address-based information. This access is necessary to aid in monitoring/measuring the tree's health (once a year) and to model and visualize growth from a geographic lens.
